PITCH
A KOB patrol explores the Sinhalese mountains in search of a COA secret base. In a valley, they find strange wooden crates. They seem abandoned...

FORCES
I played COA and my friend played KOB.

DLCOA5
I had (see picture above - click to enlarge pictures):

  • A Captain - 150 points
  • A regular commando section with specialist and sergeant - 250 points
  • An militia automata section with a drone controller and the famous Monique Dubois - 300 points

DLKOB1
He had (see picture above):

  • A captain with one lineman - 125 points
  • A veteran line section with 5 linemen + a sergeant + a specialist + a musician - 290 points
  • A regular support section: HMG + 2 linemen - 65 points
  • An elite section: 4 sky hussars - 220 points

SCENARIO

We had decided to play a standard scenario: meeting engagement / centre ground / no special conditions. As we wanted to learn the game step by step, no TAC cards were allowed.

DEPLOYMENT

We used wooden crate models as objectives. The 4 objectives were placed in the middle.
Each crate was worth 2 VP for a non shaken section controlling it (less than one inch) at the end of a turn.

TURN 1, 2 AND 3

During the first 3 turns, both COA sections and their captain went towards the British linemen on the right side, hoping to strike a decisive blow and then turn left to deal with the frightening sky hussars.
I killed a lot of infantry linemen (all except one, and the musician), while losing only one commando and one automata.
But in the meantime, on the other side of the central forest, the sky hussars were able to hold objectives and score more victory points than I could.

TURN 4 AND 5

During turn 4, the hussars crossed the forest and shot one of my commandos, while another commando was chopped by the KOB HMG.

At the beginning of turn 5, I had the initiative. I knew the hussars were going to charge. I decided to activate my commandos and shoot at the Hussars (I think I should have activated my automata section instead). But I was only able to wound one of the flying swashbucklers.
The hussars did charge the automata section and my captain joined the fight, as I felt the automata needed help against the hussars.
The last infantry lineman and the musician retreated behind the far away forest.

TURN 6 AND 7

During turn 6 and 7, while my automata and my captain were stuck in the melee, the KOB captain and his faithful bodyguard decided to charge the commandos, preventing them from reaching the precious crates near the rocks. The last British infantry lineman followed by the drum boy could claim an objective on the opposite side and give the victory to the KOB.

CONCLUSION

It was a very pleasant and instructive first game. DL kept all its promises. We’re looking forward to playing the next battle!
